Fix Scam With Your Friends Online and Lobby Issues
Fix a lobby version mismatch
- Use the mismatch screen’s Back button and read its current instructions. Steam’s October 16 Hotfix 3 added clearer guidance to that screen.
- In Steam, check for a game update and relaunch after it finishes.
- Ask everyone in the lobby to check for the same update, then try hosting or joining again.
If the game still reports a mismatch, do not guess at a version number or bypass the warning. Follow the prompt and check the latest official Steam announcements for a newer fix.
If sign-in or online access fails
If sign-in or online access fails, first confirm Steam is online and your connection is working; the store lists broadband internet as required. Hotfix 3 added a backup sign-in route for cases where the main address cannot be reached. Use it only when the game displays that option. For an invalid invite code, Hotfix 2 says Join by code accepts Steam invite links and flags invalid codes, so copy a fresh invite link from Steam and retry.
If the problem continues after updating, record the exact error, your game version, and what action triggered it, then report it through the publisher’s official page/community link or the Steam Community hub. Check the community guide for official discussion and Discord destinations.
For basic co-op setup, read how to play. If the issue is installation rather than connectivity, use download and installation help.
